Each Friday, Barry O’Sullivan invites a studio guest onto Friday’s A Jazz Hour at noon, this week American jazz guitarist Joshua Breakstone. He came into contact with the music business early in life through his parents and siblings. At the age of fourteen, he became interested in jazz and was influenced by Charlie Parker and Lee Morgan.
His music has been described as “Fire in velvet” and “With a firm grasp of the bebop language, Breakstone nevertheless avoids its cliches.” And “Breakstone is, simply, a tasteful and melodic master.” He has written ‘Studies for the Beginning Improviser’, which has become a standard text in colleges and universities across the world. Listen as Barry and Joshua discuss his music, career and musical influences.
