Recently, young songstress, Liz Player, headlined at Foundry 616 with a stunning exhibition of talent, musicality and creativity. Some standards, some original composition, and same new arrangements. She brought to the stage a sincere and focused presence, that she generously shared with her band of pianist Tom Odell, bassist Sabine Tapia and drummer Matt Simmonds. From tunes made famous by Ella Fitzgerald and Fats Domino, even Jimmy Croce and Herb Alpert, to her own compositions that will feature on her forming album release.
She took her voice from the gentleness of a Nancy Wilson jazz ballad, through the fast-paced lyrics of Clifford Brown, and into the world of scatting especially with two pieces of extraordinary dialogue with Matt Simmonds unique drumming.
Apart for a May release of tunes she has recorded in the 2MBS Founders Studio, she will be performing with James Valentine at Star City’s Foundry Theatre on April 27th, The Art House in Wyong on May 31st, and the Blue Mountains Theatre in Springwood on August 2nd
Liz Player is the 2025 2MBS Artist-in-Residence.
