Our Chairman, Simon Moore, recently gave an exclusive interview on ABC Radio Sydney’s Afternoons program to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of 2MBS Fine Music Sydney. This milestone marks not only a significant achievement in the station’s history but also heralds a fresh new look for 2MBS.

In his conversation with James Findlay, Simon took a deep dive into the early years of the station, which was founded in 1974. It was a time when community radio was just beginning to carve out its niche in Sydney, and 2MBS, originally known for its rich focus on classical and jazz music, quickly became a beacon for those with a passion for exceptional musical experiences. From its humble beginnings, 2MBS has grown into an integral part of Sydney’s cultural landscape, creating a legacy of providing listeners with high-quality, curated music programming.

Simon also reflected on the station’s decision a few years ago to reintroduce the iconic 2MBS call sign. While this move symbolised a return to the station’s roots, it became apparent that the logo, designed decades ago, no longer reflected the station’s modern identity. In particular, the emphasis within the logo was reversed, with “2MBS” being featured too small and understated.
Given that “2MBS” is central to the station’s presence — whether on digital platforms like DAB+ or on the listening app — it was clear that the existing branding no longer served its purpose effectively. The new look, which has been rolled out for the 50th anniversary, corrects this imbalance, ensuring that “2MBS” takes center stage, in line with the station’s reputation and forward-looking direction.

This milestone not only celebrates 50 years of fine music but also marks a new chapter in the ongoing evolution of 2MBS Fine Music Sydney, ensuring its brand is as strong and recognisable as the classical and jazz music it plays.
