2024 2MBS Artist in Residence Outback Brass originally formed in 2018 with the primary purpose being to take elite Australian musicianship far and wide, including remote areas of Australia and internationally. Their main stage of social media allowed Outback Brass to perform to people unable to hear them in person. Outback Brass‘s album Music Down Under is 2MBS CD of the Week. This album features all Australian compositions and presents a diverse soundscape of traditional and modern music depicting life in our country.
Outback Brass is a quintet that was formed in 2018 by Phill O’Neill, who, after having spent years living in regional Australia where he felt top-level musical performances were less common there than in coastal centres and major cities, had the desire to develop an ensemble with a primary focus on sharing and performing top level Australian music far and wide, including remote areas of Australia. This album features original Australian chamber brass music works by Adrian Hallam, Gareth Lewis, John Foster, Christopher Healey, Richard Percival, Richard Linton and Greg Van Der Struik.
Listen to Phill O’Neill on Fine Music Breakfast on Tuesday 12 November at 8.30am.
