The first in a new cycle of Dvořák symphony recordings, Dvořák: Symphonies 5 & 6 is the second release on the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s own label. The exploration of Dvořák’s many works has been an ongoing passion of Chief Conductor Jaime Martín since taking the helm of the MSO in 2022. Recorded live in Hamer Hall these performances were artistic highlights of the MSO’s 2023 season.
Dvorák’s Sixth Symphony is heavily inspired by the music of Brahms and Wagner, along with his signature incorporation of elements from Bohemian folk music.
Described as one of the most majestic in the symphonic literature, its grand, sweeping melodies take us on a journey ending in radiant, sunny high spirits.
