How to Read a City, Your Place of Last Resort is a stirring meditation on climate change and the natural world by punk rock drummer Richard Lawson, performed by Acacia Quartet with film and artistic direction by Elizabeth Walton who reads from her poetry cycle to be published by 5 Islands Press in 2026. In this new collection of poems, Elizabeth asks where to find hope while living through the challenges of climate change.
Described by Imants Tillers as a nuanced blend of composition performance imagery and spoken word the work responds to climate grief and the beauty of still-wild places. Each movement reflects urban-nature interconnection and the Symbiocene response to extinction inviting deep listening through strings contemporary harmony and evolving landscapes.
Elizabeth Walton is a writer and cross-disciplinary artist whose 2026 poetry cycle received awards and international publication. Acacia Quartet are an acclaimed Australian ensemble known for recordings touring and commissioning new works. Richard Lawson is a multi-instrumentalist.
