Each Friday, Barry O’Sullivan invites a studio guest onto Friday’s A Jazz Hour at noon. This week’s guest is jazz songstress and composer Kate Wadey.
In 2019, Fine Music Sydney awarded the inaugural Ken Weatherly Jazz Scholarship to songstress Kate Wadey. Kate was originally from Adelaide, where she completed her honours in acting, but has become a regular Sydneysider, with singing early and trad jazz and the American song book as her passions. The Ken Weatherly Jazz Scholarship allowed her to develop new songs in collaboration with local musicians for her new CD Forever Like This. However, progress became complicated by the arrival of the pandemic. And then there was arrival of her baby son.
Listen to Barry and Kate discuss her musical background, the Ken Weatherly Jazz Scholarship, and her musical influences. And a few tracks off her sublime album. Every track has superb balance between the musicians and her sweet and assured vocals.
She has a CD Release gig on 22nd July at Avoca Beach Theatre, and on 28th at Johnston Street Jazz in Annandale. Her album is available from her website and iTunes.
