Mar 7th – Jazz On Wednesdays brings you the magic of world jazz. At noon and 7:00pm on Mar 9th, the feature musician will be Zakir Hussain and his album The Best Of Zakir. Jazz Sketches at noon with Robert Vale and Planet Jazz at 7pm with Xavier Bichon.
9th March – Born this day in 1951, Zakir Hussain is a classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, his consistently brilliant and exciting performances have established him as a national treasure in his own country, India, and as one of India’s reigning cultural ambassadors.
Along with his legendary father and teacher, Ustad Allarakha, he has elevated the status of his instrument both in India and around the world. He was invited by President Obama to the International Jazz Day 2016 All-Star Global Concert.
