Launched in France in 1982 as the Fête de la Musique, Make Music Day is now celebrated on the same date in more than 2,000 cities across dozens of countries worldwide.
Unlike a traditional music festival, Make Music Day is completely open and inclusive, anyone who wants to take part is welcome.
On Sunday 21 June, musicians of every age, background and skill level bring music into streets, parks, plazas and porches, sharing performances freely with friends, neighbours and passers-by.
From singers and church choirs to jazz combos, rock bands, glee clubs, MCs, marching bands, mariachi groups and solo instrumentalists, everyone is invited to join in. There’s always room in the band.
For more information visit the Make Music Day website.
This year, the Lane Cove Music Alliance and Live Music Zone are also presenting a special Make Music Day celebration on Saturday 20 June, featuring a vibrant lineup of jazz artists performing from 10am through to late afternoon in Lane Cove, at The Canopy, The Plaza and Live Music Zone. Music is life!
