Michael Field is Chair of the Presenters Committee at Fine Music Sydney. He is a retired medical academic and specialist, with a life-long passion for classical music. He was a flautist in the National Music Camp Orchestra in the late 1960s and more recently resumed his flute-playing for a period as a member of the Australian Doctors Orchestra and the NSW Doctors Orchestra.

Michael’s working career has been in medicine and medical education. He is currently Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney, and formerly practised and taught renal medicine at the Royal North Shore Hospital where he was Associate Dean and Head of the Clinical School. He remains involved in international medical school development as Past President of the Western Pacific Association for Medical Education, and as a site visitor and adviser for the World Federation for Medical Education, affiliated with the WHO.

He is committed to the role of the humanities and music in the education of healthcare professionals, and is a strong proponent of the place of music in a balanced education for all children from a very young age.
