The ensemble’s dear friend Erin Helyard returns to lead a delightful all-Mozart program shaped by the composer’s connections to Salzburg, Vienna, and a brief but fruitful stop in Linz. Mozart’s String Quintet in B-flat major, K.174, composed at 17 in a happier Salzburg period, reflects his love for the viola and boasts symphonic depth. Erin Helyard’s own arrangement of the Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 11, K.413, offers a rare gem, its lyrical slow movement foreshadows later masterpieces. The program also features the Sonata in B-flat major, K.333, long misattributed to Paris but now traced to Mozart’s “working honeymoon” in Linz, along with the Linz Symphony, K.425, composed in just five days for local nobility. From youthful joy to mature warmth, this concert captures Mozart at his most personal, playful, and profound.
