Explore vast liminal spaces and be encompassed by what lies in between with Ensemble Apex’s daring new project Behind Me Is The Dark. Collaborating with lighting designer Andre Vanderwert (Chunky Move, Phoenix Central Park), Apex presents four bold modern works exploring time and texture through sound and light. Brigitta Muntendorf ’s explosive Shivers on Speed opens the program in its Australian premiere, followed by Lisa Illean’s Januaries, a work inspired by memories of Australia’s arid heat.
Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s Hrim – also receiving its Australian premiere – leads into György Ligeti’s iconic Kammerkonzert, a landmark of the contemporary orchestral repertoire. Ensemble Apex unites some of Australia’s most exciting orchestral musicians, including permanent members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Opera Australia Orchestra, alongside a new generation of soloists and emerging artists.
The concert will be conducted by Ensemble Apex Artistic Director Sam Weller, with the ensemble led by long-time collaborator Anna da Silva Chen. Wednesday 1st & Thursday 2nd April – 8PM ACO On The Pier, Walsh Bay
