Sydney Cello Quartet – The Witching Hour

In The Witching Hour, the Sydney Cello Quartet performs music exploring the nocturnal world and the dichotomy of darkness and light within it. This varied program ranges from overtones of the gothic and occult in Schubert’s famous lied Der Erlkönig and Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre to the languorous and lullaby-like qualities of Debussy’s enduringly popular Clair de Lune and Mendelssohn’s Nocturne from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. SCQ will also premiere a new arrangement of a dynamic and virtuosic work, Solar Flares by Sydney composer Alicia Grant.
