What happens when jazz performance students can’t study performance? They lose the opportunity to improvise with others; the very essence of jazz. Home Recording 101 is just not the same, and not much joy. During the short break between Sydney lockdowns earlier this year, four of the jazz ensembles from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music descended on the FineMusic Founders Studio, bringing it to life.
The four jazz ensembles were led by renowned Sydney jazz stars, David Theak, Phil Slater, Brendan Clarke and Matt McMahon. We even had the jazz program leader Kevin Hunt behind the piano. They spent all weekend recording their own compositions and some arrangements of jazz standards. Recorded by FineMusic’s Jayson McBride, they have been remixed and ready for you.
This Saturday on Emergent Jazz at 7:00pm, Keith Pettigrew will bring you:
Assemble The Ensembles – Jazz From The Con.
A evening of recordings from a weekend of remarkable emergent jazz.
This is jazz at its most emergent excellence. Edgy and refined. Dynamic and balanced.
This is the jazz of our future.
