Here at 2MBS, we’re always looking for volunteers to join our team of presenters. If you’re fluent in English, have a little background in music, and can take a stab at pronouncing the many foreign names and words that crop up in Western music, why not take the following ten-minute audition, and see if you have what it takes to become a 2MBS presenter?

Before you begin:

We’d all like to have lovely, resonant ‘radio’ voices, but that’s not the most important thing for 2MBS. What we want to hear is an intelligent read, that uses appropriate word stress to convey to the listener the narrative of the script.

We also greatly value the ability to pronounce foreign names and words correctly. The scripts you will be reading have been designed to include names from all the major languages you will encounter as a presenter. We don’t expect perfection, but if you are in any doubt about pronunciations, we strongly advise consulting forvo.com before you make your recording.

The Audition Process for Classical music

  1. We have prepared scripts for three music items, which we want to hear you read. There is a fourth item, Caccini’s ‘Ave Maria’, for which we would like you to prepare and read your own script, of up to 100 words.
  2. Listen to the music clips.
  3. Print out the prepared scripts, ready to read and record.
  4. Prepare and print your own script for the Caccini.
  5. Speak with a strong voice – smart phone microphones can be ‘unflattering’!
  6. Fill in the online form, giving us some basic information about yourself.
  7. Submit the form. We’ll get back to you in a day or so, to let you know whether you have been accepted for training.

Good luck – we’re looking forward to hearing from you!
