Meet our 2025 2MBS Artist in Residence (jazz), Liz Player. Emerging from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Liz has been mentored by jazz greats such as Judy Bailey, Kevin Hunt and Craig Scott.

Jazz musician Chris Cody's new album Mountain to Sea, features an incredible line-up of Australian jazz musicians from diverse backgrounds and generations.
The music is organic, intuitive, and boundary less, with each piece taking both the artist and the audience on a unique journey.

Barry O’Sullivan talks to one of Australia’s most respected creative musicians, the prolific drummer/ composer/producer Laurence Pike. Along with his solo releases for the UK’s Leaf Label, Pike is a member of Warp Records alumni PVT, electronic jazz trio Triosk, the UK’s Szun Waves, and the legendary US/ Australian avant-punk group LIARS.

Mosaic is a 10-piece Sydney big band that displays harmony and unison, whilst creating the energy and focus of a quartet. Where We Are Now is their debut release. They are all still on campus, crafting the future of jazz. Compositions come from the musicians, or from invited young composers. Even the artwork is by a young artist, Lee Francis-Evatt

The 2MBS Fine Music Sydney Artist in Residence Mosaic is truly on the rise! Their latest album Where We Are Now has secured an impressive spot in the top five of the 100% Independent Albums chart, currently at number four alongside award-winning Casey Chambers.

Celebrating the diverse, the magical and the superb. Experience over 60 global and local artists across 7 venues at the Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival. From stunning American vocalist Jazzmeia Horn, explosive, instrumental quartet Kira Kira featuring Satoko Fujii from Japan to local legend Sandy Evans featured in Shakti Spirit, a new Indian Jazz collaboration celebrating female creativity.

The legendary jazz pianist Herbie Hancock brought his final Australian tour of a stellar band to the stage of the Sydney Opera House, walking casually onto the stage with his three-year-old grandson Dru in hand to commence the proceedings. Dru showed off his flashing light-up sneakers to warm up the house for the excitement that was to come.

Celebrated singers, composers and performers in their own right, Trish Delaney-Brown, Sam Walton and Briana Cowlishaw combine their musical sensibilities to form the distinctive vocal harmony soundscape experience that is Lyhra’s debut EP.

The 2MBS Fine Music Sydney Artist in Residence program is designed to support Sydney jazz ensembles with active promotion and provide extensive rehearsal opportunities. This year’s award went to a young 10-piece jazz ensemble the Mosaic Jazz Collective.

From stowing away on a boat to Sydney, to winning a scholarship from Down Beat magazine to attend Berklee College of Music and establishing himself in the American heartlands of jazz, Mike Nock’s story has always been one of fierce ambition, determination, and remarkable talent.
