Meet Zodiac our 2023 Jazz Artists in Residence
Zodiac is a Sydney based quartet, with four of Australia’s young emerging talents; Jordan Chung (piano), Hinano Fujisaki (saxophone), Matt Ling (Double Bass) and Manson Luk (drums). Having met during their time studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the group has unearthed an original sound that resonates with both their Asian cultural background and the Australian community. The ensemble is deeply rooted in the creativity and freedom of contemporary jazz, where each member holds a unique voice, all adding to the collective storytelling of their music.
Over the last couple years, the quartet have been heavily involved in the Sydney music scene both as a group and individually, having played across many of the city’s renowned venues and festivals. In 2023, Zodiac will release their debut album, consisting of 8 original works, with compositions contributed from all members of the band.
As an emerging Sydney-based ensemble, Zodiac were really attracted to the 2MBS Fine Music Jazz Artists in Residence Program, with its wonderful opportunity to help promote both their music and identity as an ensemble.
As part of their residency, they are really excited to workshop, rehearse and compose in the Founder’s Studio and to share their debut album once released towards the end of 2023. Through this opportunity Zodiac are also looking forward to sharing their story as a band and what entails their musical journey over the next year.
