Noah Oshiro is the 2024 Young Virtuoso Award (YVA) winner. At just 23 years old, cellist Noah Oshiro captivates audiences with a remarkable maturity in his musical performance. Noah is very proud of his latest achievement: “It’s a real honour to receive this award amongst the other finalists who are some of my colleagues and closest friends and musicians who I have a great respect for.
It’s something that I’ve always looked forward to doing.”

Having started his cello journey at the age of three, Noah is now in his final year of Bachelor of Music in Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studying under esteemed instructors Julian Smiles and Danny Yeadon.
While studying at the Sydney Conservatorium, Noah has had the privilege of receiving both the Henderson Traveller’s Scholarship and the Westheimer String Quartet Fellowship Program. These opportunities have allowed him to explore chamber music abroad and gain valuable string quartet training from esteemed musicians of the Emerson, Hagen, Artemis, and Goldner Quartets.

Noah’s impressive musical background includes studies in Europe and performances as a featured artist at the 2024 Orange Chamber Music Festival. He has also toured with Musica Viva and collaborated with acclaimed groups like the Brodsky Quartet and Ensemble Apex String Quartet.

His recent recital featured a diverse program, beginning with his own composition, Improvisando. This piece showcased not only his technical prowess but also his compositional skill, evoking a wide range of emotions—from dark and moody passages to vibrant bursts of passion. Noah has many projects in the pipeline: “Over the next year, I’ve got quite a lot of work lined up with OA orchestra over the upcoming ballet and opera seasons. I am also looking to audition for festivals and teachers overseas to see what opportunities arise and hopefully come across a teacher who I think would be great for my development as a cellist and person.”
